Goolwa PipiCo plays an important part it the local Fleurieu community. Apart from employing over 30 locals it also has a strong connection with a number of other food related groups, including Goolwa’s Cittaslow ‘slow food’ and Eat Local movements.
In addition to these structured groups, we also enjoy the support of some very special local foodies who have taken it upon themselves to become Pipi Ambassadors. Not because we’ve contracted or paid them to do it, but because they just love the pipi and our company.
Olaf Hansen is a local food identity, having opened two highly successful cafes in the Goolwa region, most recently the unassuming Bombora that consistently delivers very honest offerings that pay tribute to local fish and produce. Now retired, Olaf spends a large part of his spare time running around on the Goolwa PipiCo BBQ bike, cooking up the now famous ‘Olaf special’ which is lauded by the local community as a Goolwa institution.
Similarly, local chef Billy Dohnt and the ‘girls’ (Maria and Nikki) from Lucia’s have taken it upon themselves to spruik the mighty Goolwa Pipi to anyone who wants to listen. Billy has played an educational role in teaching home cooks the basics of how to prepare our pipis on the company website. While the Lucia’s crew put bowls of Spaghetti Vongole in front of State Premiers, leading business identities and have movers and shakers at their famous Central Market institution on a daily basis.
